Overview
The Researcher Workbench platform officially migrated to Verily Workbench on June 30, 2026. Legacy platform (1.0) workspaces that were not moved to the new platform by researchers have been archived. Researchers can request to recover these archived workspaces for continued analysis in the new Workbench.
This article explains how to access archived workspaces, what to expect during the archival process, and how to request recovery if needed.
How Workspace Archival Works
Step 1: Access Your Workspaces
- Log into the Researcher Workbench lobby.
-
Navigate to Your Workspaces to see your remaining legacy workspaces:
Step 2: Identify Your Archived Workspaces
Within your workspace list, you should see signage on each workspace indicating:
- Waiting to archive: The workspace is in the process of being archived by our team.
- Archived: Workspace archival is complete. The workspace is ready to be recovered if needed.
Step 3: Checklist Before Requesting a Recovery
Before requesting to recover an archived workspace, you will need to complete the following:
- Sign into the new Researcher Workbench platform (if you have not already).
- Accept the Verily Terms of Service (TOS) when prompted (if you have not already).
- Ensure you have an active Google Cloud Platform (GCP) billing account linked via a billing pod. Please see our guides for step-by-step guidance:
⚠️ Access and recovery cannot proceed until these steps are completed.
Don’t forget: Archived workspaces retain the following key data:
- ✅ Files stored in the workspace bucket
- ❌ Files stored on a persistent disk
- ❌ Analysis environments (e.g., Jupyter runtime configurations)
- ❌ Cohorts, concept sets, and datasets created with point-and-click tools
All archived workspaces are aligned with the most recent supported Curated Data Repository (CDR). For more information on the dataset, see the Data Dictionaries.
Step 4: Request Workspace Recovery
If you need to recover an archived workspace:
- Open the archived workspace.
- Select the option to request recovery (if available).
-
Submit your request for review.
-
Once submitted, the Researcher Workbench Support team will review your request.
-
The workspace status will display as “Recovery pending” while under review.
- Once approved, the workspace will be restored and accessible in the new Researcher Workbench platform. Please allow 5-7 business days for processing. You’ll receive an email notification when the workspace is ready for access in the new Workbench.
Important Notes
- Archived workspaces are not active for analysis until recovered.
- Data in an archived workspace is preserved during the 12 month retention period.
- Only data stored in the workspace bucket will remain accessible.
What if I don’t see my legacy workspace?
If you do not see a legacy workspace in your list, please consider the following:
- The workspace may have already successfully migrated to the new Researcher Workbench platform. In this case, it will not appear under archived workspaces—you can find it in the new platform under the Workspaces tab.
- The workspace may have been deleted by you or a collaborator. Deleted workspaces cannot be recovered and are not eligible for archival.
- The workspace may still be in the process of being archived. Please allow some time and check again later, as the archival process may not be immediate.
If you still cannot locate your workspace after checking these items, please contact support at support@researchallofus.org for assistance.
