The All of Us Researcher Workbench is the secure, cloud-based platform where you can access and analyze the All of Us dataset. Within the Researcher Workbench, there are multiple tools available to support you in querying, wrangling, and analyzing the data.
Workspaces
Workspaces are where you build and analyze your dataset. Each workspace has four main tabs: Overview, Resources, Apps, and Workflows.
- The Overview tab includes an editable version of the workspace description provided during the workspace creation process. Note: When adding an All of Us data collection, you must adhere to the policies attached to the data collection. At that time, you will enter information such as the workspace description information under the “Researcher Use Statement Questions.” Learn more here.
- The Resources tab houses the data resources for facilitating analysis. In many cases, resources are simply multimodal data that can be managed within a workspace. There are two main types of data resources in Researcher Workbench: object-based data resources contain files and folders (i.e., storage buckets and objects), and tabular data resources contain BigQuery datasets and tables (i.e., All of Us Curated Data Repositories [CDRs], aka data collections).
- The Apps tab includes the cloud computing resources such as JupyterLab, R Analysis Environment, SAS, etc.
- The Workflows tab is where you can add, run, and monitor workflows after they have been added to the workspace.
Resources and support
The Researcher Workbench also includes helpful resources for you via Featured Workspaces and the User Support Hub. See the Researcher Workbench Getting Started Guide to get started.
Featured workspaces are workspaces designed to provide examples of cohorts, concept sets, datasets, and data analyses that can support you during your research journey.
Support resources are integrated within the Researcher Workbench, and you can connect with our support team via email. Our User Support Hub also provides a wealth of knowledge about getting started in the Researcher Workbench, understanding the data structure, wrangling data for analysis, and more.
You can also connect with fellow Researcher Workbench users through the Community, which is a community forum for users to connect, ask questions, and collaborate on research projects.
